Objective 2.1
ACEPlanning and implementing compute resources
Objective 2.1 sits in Planning and implementing a cloud solution, which carries 30% of the Associate Cloud Engineer exam. The questions below are original, written from the official objective title above, and each explanation cites the Google Cloud page it rests on.

A worked example
Shown solved, with the whole explanation open: this is what every question here carries.
An engineer sizing a VM needs roughly 8 GB of memory for every vCPU. Which predefined machine type name fits that ratio?
Correct.
Concept
Predefined shapes exist so that a workload can be described by its memory to core ratio rather than by two independent numbers. Reading the name backwards gives you the ratio.
Why A
The highmem shapes run from 7 to 12 GB of memory per vCPU and typically land at 8. Standard sits at roughly 4 GB and highcpu at roughly 2.
Now you: objective 2.1 questions
No account needed. The explanation opens when you answer.
Sample question 1 of 3
A team cannot find a predefined machine type matching their memory requirement. Which machine series accept a custom machine type?
Sample question 2 of 3
An analyst compares a custom machine type against an equivalent predefined one. What premium do the on-demand custom prices carry?
Sample question 3 of 3
A team wants low-cost machine types that timeshare a physical core for small apps. Which two machine series offer them?
