Refund Policy

Last updated: 22 July 2026

Money back within two weeks, on anything, without an argument about it.

The short version

Every purchase is refundable in full for 14 days. Email hello@firsttry.app from the address on your account and say you want a refund. You do not have to give a reason.

We do not deduct for questions you already answered. If the product was not what you expected, that is exactly what the window is for.

01The 14-day window

Every purchase on FirstTry comes with a 14-day refund window, counted from the date of the transaction. That covers per-certification passes, Pro monthly, Pro annual, and Founding Lifetime.

Within that window you get the full amount back. There is no usage deduction, no restocking fee, and no requirement to justify yourself. Having practised a hundred questions does not reduce what you get back.

For subscriptions, the window applies to each charge. A renewal you did not want is refundable for 14 days after it is taken, not only the first payment.

02How to request one

Email hello@firsttry.app from the address on your account, and say what you bought. That is the whole process.

We reply within two working days and process the refund at the same time. The money goes back to the original payment method. How long it then takes to appear is up to your bank, usually five to ten working days.

Refunds are issued through Lemon Squeezy, our payment processor and merchant of record, so the credit shows against their name on your statement, the same way the original charge did.

You are not required to explain why. If you want to tell us what went wrong we will read it and it genuinely helps, but it is not a condition of getting your money back.

03Per-certification passes

A per-certification pass is a one-time purchase that gives you one certification’s full question bank for good. It does not renew and it will never charge you again.

Refund window
14 days from purchase, refunded in full.
Partial refunds
Not applicable. A pass is a single purchase, so it is refunded whole or not at all.
Multiple passes
Each is refunded separately. Refunding your Security+ pass does not affect a CCNA pass you also hold.
After a refund
That certification returns to the free tier for you: 20 questions per day, all explanations, one mock. You keep your account and your history.

04Pro subscriptions

Pro is a recurring subscription, monthly or annual, covering every certification. Two different things can happen and they are worth separating.

Cancelling stops future charges. It is not a refund. You keep Pro access until the end of the period you have already paid for, then drop to free. You can cancel yourself from your account page at any time, and we never make you email us to do it.

Refunding returns the money for a charge already taken. Within 14 days of any charge, including a renewal, we refund it in full and Pro access ends when the refund is processed.

Annual plan, refunded in window
Full amount back if requested within 14 days of the charge.
Annual plan, months later
Outside the window we do not refund automatically, but cancel and you keep access to the end of the year you paid for. If something is genuinely wrong, write to us.
Monthly plan
Each month's charge is refundable for 14 days, which in practice means an unwanted renewal is always recoverable.
Forgot to cancel
Tell us. If a renewal caught you out and you have not used the new period, we refund it, and we would rather do that than keep money from someone who did not mean to spend it.

05Founding Lifetime

Founding Lifetime is a one-time $149 purchase, limited to the first 500 accounts, that gives you everything in Pro permanently.

It is refundable in full within 14 days like anything else. When it is refunded, the founding spot goes back into the pool and becomes available to someone else, and the counter on the pricing page reflects that.

Outside the window we do not refund Founding Lifetime, because it is priced as a long-term commitment in both directions. If FirstTry shuts down, Founding Lifetime holders are told first and we deal with it fairly rather than hiding behind this paragraph.

06What happens to your access

Refunds remove paid access. They do not delete anything you have done.

Your account
Stays open. You do not lose it by asking for a refund.
Your practice history
Kept. Every response, your readiness score, your streak and your mock attempts stay exactly as they were.
Paid content
Ends when the refund is processed. Pro drops to free across all certs; a per-cert pass drops that one cert to free.
The free tier
Continues as normal: 20 questions a day per certification, every explanation, one mock per cert, and all cheat sheets. Explanations are never paywalled here, before or after a refund.
Buying again later
Allowed and easy. A previous refund does not blocklist you, and your history is still there when you come back.

07Outside the window

After 14 days we do not refund as a matter of course. Two exceptions, both of which we apply without being argued into them:

  • We broke something. If a feature you paid for stopped working, or content you bought was removed and not replaced, we refund the affected part regardless of how long ago you bought it.
  • A charge you did not intend. A duplicate charge, or a renewal on an account you had stopped using, gets refunded.

If your situation is not on this page, write to us anyway. This policy sets a floor, not a ceiling.

08Chargebacks

If something is wrong, email us first. We refund quickly and without conditions, so a chargeback costs you weeks and gets you the same outcome.

A chargeback filed without contacting us suspends the account while the bank investigates, because we have no way to tell it apart from card fraud. Contact us and none of that happens.

Terms for the wider service are on the terms of service page, and what we do with your data is on the privacy policy.

This policy is a working draft

It was written to be accurate about how FirstTry actually operates, and it has not been reviewed by a lawyer. It is not legal advice. If anything here matters to a decision you are making, write to us and ask.
