What the exam tests
Exam domains and official weightings
The percentage is the exam weighting; the bar is how many verified questions we hold there, so a short bar is where our bank is thin.
- Setting up a cloud solution environment20%20 verified
- Planning and implementing a cloud solution30%30 verified
- Ensuring the successful operation of a cloud solution30%30 verified
- Configuring access and security20%20 verified
Where to focus: Sections 2 and 3 carry 30% each, so 60% of the exam is building a solution and then operating it. Time on the console and in gcloud against Compute Engine, GKE and Cloud Run is worth more than reading.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Associate Cloud Engineer exam cost and how long is it?
$125 plus tax, 2 hours, 50 to 60 multiple choice and multiple select questions. You can sit it online-proctored from home or at a test center. Google recommends 6 or more months of hands-on Google Cloud work first, but sets no formal prerequisite.
What score do you need to pass?
Google does not publish one. No cut score appears on the certification page, in the exam guide, in the certification terms or in the Cloud Certification help center, so anyone quoting you a number is guessing. You get a pass or fail result, not a score.
Is there an exam code like AZ-104?
No. Google names its certification exams rather than numbering them, so there is nothing to search for on a voucher. The short code shown on this page is the common abbreviation, not a code Google publishes.
How is the exam weighted?
Google publishes the split in its exam guide: setting up a cloud solution environment 20%, planning and implementing 30%, ensuring successful operation 30%, and configuring access and security 20%. Sixty percent of the exam is build and run work.
What happens if you fail?
You wait 14 days before a second attempt, 60 days before a third and 365 days before a fourth, and you get four attempts in any two year period. Each attempt is paid at full price.
