Concept

A radio announces itself in two ways: unsolicited announcements and answers to a client asking what is nearby. Suppressing the name affects both, which changes who can discover the network but not who can join it.

With the option set, the access point leaves the name out of its beacons and ignores probe requests that do not name a network. A client configured with the exact name still asks for it directly and associates as normal.
