GI Bill test reimbursement
Veterans and service members with remaining entitlement.
The VA pays back the cost of a licensing or certification test, and it is the most generous route on this page in the way that matters most: it pays for attempts that did not go well, which no employer scheme does.
- Up to $2,000 per test, covering the fee itself plus registration and administrative charges.
- You can take the same test as many times as you need and the VA will pay each time, including a retake of a test you already passed if recertification requires it.
- Entitlement is charged rather than the benefit being free: for tests taken after 1 August 2018 the charge is prorated against the actual fee rather than costing a full month.
- It is a reimbursement, so the money comes back after the fact. That matters for planning a $425 exam you have to pay for first.
