CCHow hard is Certified in Cybersecurity?
ISC2 classifies Certified in Cybersecurity at the beginner level. It is adaptive multiple choice (CAT), sat in 120 minutes. No invented pass rates anywhere on this page.
The short answer
ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity is an entry-level exam. It assumes no prior certification.
If you work with computers day to day, even outside a formal IT role, most of the material will connect to things you have seen. The challenge is vocabulary and breadth, not depth: the exam touches many topics lightly rather than a few deeply.
What actually makes it hard
Recognition is not understanding.
The format is adaptive multiple choice (CAT). The wrong options are written to look right to someone who learned the terms without the concept behind them.
Breadth across domains.
The objectives cover 5 areas and the exam samples all of them. ISC2 publishes no weighting, so nothing tells you which of them carry the most marks.
The clock.
100 to 125 questions in 120 minutes is about 1.2 minutes each at the low end of that range, and less at the top of it, including the time to read the stem and the options. Reading about the exam does not rehearse that pace; a full-length sitting against the clock does.
Where the weight sits
Difficulty is not spread evenly, and ISC2 publishes no weighting that says where it sits. The percentages below are ours:

ISC2 replaced the CC exam outline on 1 September 2026. The five domains and percentages listed here are the previous outline, which is the structure our question bank is currently written and tagged against, so the practice you get here matches the questions rather than the current blueprint. The published outline now runs Security Principles 24 percent, Security Governance 17.3 percent, Identity and Access Management Concepts 20 percent, Networking and Cloud Security Concepts 21.3 percent, and Security Operations and Incident Response 17.3 percent, which ISC2 gives as average weights because the exam is adaptive. Read the current outline at isc2.org before you book, and expect our domains here to move to it as the bank is re-tagged.
