How hard is Core Certified User?

Splunk classifies Core Certified User at the beginner level. It is 60 multiple choice questions, delivered by Pearson VUE at a test center or with an online proctor, sat in 60 minutes. No invented pass rates anywhere on this page.

The short answer

Splunk Core Certified User is an entry-level exam. It assumes no prior certification.

If you work with computers day to day, even outside a formal IT role, most of the material will connect to things you have seen. The challenge is vocabulary and breadth, not depth: the exam touches many topics lightly rather than a few deeply.

What actually makes it hard

Recognition is not understanding.
The format is 60 multiple choice questions, delivered by Pearson VUE at a test center or with an online proctor. The wrong options are written to look right to someone who learned the terms without the concept behind them.
Breadth across domains.
The blueprint spans 8 domains and the exam samples all of them. The heaviest, Basic Searching, is 22 percent of the exam; the lightest, Creating Scheduled Reports and Alerts, 5 percent.
The clock.
60 questions in 60 minutes is about one minute each, including the time to read the stem and the options. Reading about the exam does not rehearse that pace; a full-length sitting against the clock does.

Where candidates struggle: Basic Searching and Using Fields in Searches are 42% of the paper between them, so close to half the exam is running a search and reading what comes back. Splunk Basics is 5%, which is three questions on the parts most study time gets spent on.
