How much does CompTIA CySA+ cost?

The single biggest reduction is not a discount code, it is passing on the first sitting. A retake doubles the exam line to $850, which is more than every other cost on this page put together. The cheapest thing you can do is practise reading real scanner and SIEM output until your mock scores sit above the pass line.

After that, the order of savings is familiar. Get an employer to pay, because a SOC or analyst role usually comes with a training budget that covers exactly this exam. Use academic pricing through the CompTIA Academic Store if you are a student. Use DoD COOL or GI Bill funding if you are eligible, which pays the fee back rather than cutting it up front. And buy the voucher on its own, because CompTIA prices voucher-plus-training well above the voucher by itself.

One trap is worth naming. Vouchers expire, usually twelve months from purchase. Buying early during a sale and then not being ready is a common way to pay $425 for nothing. Buy when you have an exam date in mind, not when you have a discount in mind.

CompTIA charges full price for a retake: another $425. There is no discount and no partial credit for the domains you passed, so a fail sends you back through the whole 165 minutes.

The waiting rules are gentler than the price. You can sit the second attempt immediately, with no waiting period, and CompTIA requires 14 days between tries from the third attempt onward.

That immediate rebooking is the trap. A CySA+ fail is almost always about reading output under a clock rather than a fact you can look up, and that does not improve overnight. Read the score report, which breaks the result down by domain, put the hours into the weak domain against real artifacts, and rebook when your mocks say you are ready.

CySA+ is valid for three years, and renewal costs either time or money. You choose which.

The time route is 60 continuing education units across the cycle plus CompTIA's continuing education fee. CEUs come from things many analysts do anyway: higher certifications, relevant training, conference attendance, and documented work. A single higher CompTIA or industry certification can cover the whole requirement on its own.

The money route is re-sitting the current version of CySA+ at full price. Over three years the CEU route is almost always cheaper, and it is the one to plan for from the week you pass rather than the month before you expire.

Preparation for CySA+ can genuinely cost nothing. The realistic range people spend is $0 to $450, and the top of that range buys convenience rather than a better chance of passing.
