PCDProfessional Cloud Developer: the honest guide
Everything Google Cloud publishes about PCD, in one place: what the exam asks, how the domains are weighted, and what it takes to be ready.
This guide page is built from the registry, not written yet.
Everything below comes from Cloud Developer’s published exam data, and every figure links to the vendor page it came from. The researched version, with study plans and the parts nobody publishes, is still being written. This page is not submitted to search engines until it is.

Domain breakdown and official weightings
From the official Google Cloud exam guides. Designing highly scalable, secure, and reliable cloud-native applications is the heaviest domain at 32 percent, followed by Configuring cloud-native applications for deployment at 24 percent.
- Designing highly scalable, secure, and reliable cloud-native applications32%
- Building and testing applications23%
- Configuring cloud-native applications for deployment24%
- Integrating applications with Google Cloud services21%
Where to focus: Designing applications is a third of the exam on its own, and its three sub-objectives split evenly across performance, security and data access. The deployment section is entirely Cloud Run and GKE, so time spent on other compute options pays nothing here.
What comes after passing
Professional certifications last two years, one year less than the foundational and associate ones. Renewing means passing the $200 exam again inside the 60 day eligibility window, with the 50 percent code from your last pass applied.
Costs across the full renewal cycle are on the Cloud Developer cost page.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know a specific language?
No single language is required, but you need to read code comfortably. The exam asks which client library call or deployment setting fits a described requirement, so the questions are language-shaped even when they are not language-specific.
Is it Cloud Run or GKE?
Both, and the guide splits them into their own sub-objectives inside the deployment section. Knowing which one a described constraint points at is worth more marks than deep knowledge of either.
How much is design versus hands-on?
Design is the largest single section at 32 percent, but the other 68 percent is building, deploying and integrating. Treating it as an architecture exam is the common way to underprepare.
How long is it valid?
Two years, one less than the foundational and associate certifications. Renewal means passing the full exam again.
