How much does Professional Cloud Network Engineer cost?

Professional Cloud Network Engineer is $200, and it splits cleanly into a free half and a metered one. VPCs, subnets, routes, firewall rules and Cloud DNS cost nothing to build; Cloud Interconnect cannot be practiced at all, and load balancers and VPN gateways bill while they exist. Budget $200 for a self-studied attempt and up to $700 with paid training and a retake reserve.

Google Skills learning pathVariesGoogle publishes a learning path for each exam. Some of it is free and some sits behind a subscription, so check the price before you buy anything.
Exam guide$0Six sections. Designing and planning a VPC is 21 percent and implementing one is 20 percent, so 41 percent of the exam is VPC design and configuration, which is also the free part to practice.
VPCs, routes, firewall rules, Cloud DNS$0 to negligibleNetworks, subnets, routes, firewall rules and private DNS zones cost nothing or nearly nothing to create and keep. The largest two sections of this exam are the cheapest to practice.
Cloud VPN and Cloud RouterHourly per tunnel and gatewayWorth one deliberate session to see BGP routes exchanged for real. Delete the gateway rather than only the tunnel when you finish.
Cloud Load BalancingHourly per forwarding ruleThe distinction between the load balancer types is a reliable source of exam questions, and each one is cheap to stand up and expensive to leave standing.
Cloud InterconnectNot practisableDedicated and Partner Interconnect need a real circuit and a provider relationship, so this section is read rather than built. Plan for that rather than waiting for a lab opportunity that will not come.

Ways to bring the cost down

Do the free 41 percent first and do it thoroughly. VPC design and implementation are the two largest sections and neither needs meaningful spend: shared VPC, peering, routes, firewall rules and hierarchical policies are all configuration.

Batch the metered work. One session for VPN and Cloud Router, one for the load balancer types, everything deleted at the end of each. Three unplanned evenings cost more and teach less than two planned ones.

Accept that Interconnect is a reading section. It is 16 percent of the exam shared with VPN, and no amount of trial credit produces a real circuit.

Set a budget alert before the first forwarding rule. Load balancers and VPN gateways are the two resources on this curriculum that quietly bill while you sleep.

  • 50 percent renewal code

Passing puts a 50 percent discount code in the Benefits section of your CM Connect account, and you can apply it to your renewal attempt. Failing does not earn one.

  • Free tier and trial credits

Over 20 Google Cloud products have a free monthly usage tier, and new customers get $300 in credits on signup. That covers most of the hands-on work these exams ask about if you delete what you build.

For a good share of candidates somebody else pays this fee. The GI Bill, DoD and employer routes, with the rules each one publishes.

What a retake costs

A retake is another $200 at full price.

The waiting ladder is 14 days, 60 days, then 365, with four attempts allowed in any two-year period.

No published passing score, no section breakdown: a failure returns the result and nothing else.

The two reliable failure points are load balancer selection and hybrid routing. Between attempts, write down for each Google load balancer which traffic type, scope and layer it serves, then draw the route exchange for a site-to-site VPN with Cloud Router. If either exercise is uncomfortable, that is the retake plan.

What renewal costs across the full cycle

Professional Cloud Network Engineer is valid for two years, and the renewal window opens 60 days before expiry.

Renewal means passing the applicable exam inside the window, with exam fees applying; shorter renewal exams and a Google Skills route exist where supported.

Google's networking surface changes steadily, and Network Connectivity Center in particular now appears in two sections of this guide where it once appeared in none. A renewal is worth treating as study.

The discount code issued after a pass applies to a renewal attempt, so the four-year cost of holding this certification is well below two full-price exams.

Typical preparation budget
