PCNE

Professional Cloud Network Engineer: the honest guide

Everything Google Cloud publishes about PCNE, in one place: what the exam asks, how the domains are weighted, and what it takes to be ready.

This guide page is built from the registry, not written yet.

Everything below comes from Cloud Network Engineer’s published exam data, and every figure links to the vendor page it came from. The researched version, with study plans and the parts nobody publishes, is still being written. This page is not submitted to search engines until it is.

Domain breakdown and official weightings

From the official Google Cloud exam guides. Designing and planning a Google Cloud VPC network is the heaviest domain at 21 percent, followed by Implementing a VPC network at 20 percent.

  • Designing and planning a Google Cloud VPC network21%
  • Implementing a VPC network20%
  • Configuring managed network services16%
  • Configuring and implementing hybrid and multicloud network interconnectivity16%
  • Managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting network operations14%
  • Configuring, implementing and managing a cloud network security solution13%

Where to focus: Design and implementation together are 41 percent, so most marks come from knowing which VPC shape a requirement calls for rather than from configuration detail. Hybrid connectivity at 16 percent is where candidates without a networking background lose the most, because Cloud Router means BGP.

What comes after passing

Professional certifications last two years, one year less than the foundational and associate ones. Renewing means passing the $200 exam again inside the 60 day eligibility window, with the 50 percent code from your last pass applied.

Costs across the full renewal cycle are on the Cloud Network Engineer cost page.

Frequently asked questions

How much of it is hybrid connectivity?

Sixteen percent as its own section, plus a sub-objective inside the design section. Cloud Interconnect, HA VPN and Cloud Router between them carry more marks than load balancing does.

Do I need to know BGP?

Yes. Cloud Router is BGP, and it appears in both the hybrid section and the design section. Someone coming from a cloud rather than networking background usually finds this the hardest part.

Is Network Connectivity Center really in two sections?

Yes, and that is Google's own structure: 2.3 covers configuring it inside a VPC implementation, and 4.4 covers it for hybrid connectivity. The same product answers two different design questions.

How long is it valid?

Two years, one less than the foundational and associate certifications. Renewal means passing the full exam again.
