The Associate Google Workspace Administrator exam is $125 plus tax, and the one real extra is a tenant to practice in, because almost every objective is a setting in the Admin console. Budget $125 for a self-studied first attempt inside a 14 day Workspace trial, and up to $400 if you keep a one-seat Business Plus tenant for a few months and add a paid course.

Ways to bring the cost down
Start the 14 day trial on the day the study plan starts and work through the exam guide section by section inside it. Most candidates can cover user lifecycle, OUs, groups, Gmail routing, Drive sharing and 2SV in a fortnight of evenings.
If the trial is not enough, keep one seat and not five. The objectives that need a second account, such as delegation, calendar sharing and Drive ownership transfer, work with an external consumer account as the other party.
Practice the mobile and Chrome objectives on devices you already own. Basic mobile management, Chrome browser enrolment and extension policy need a phone and a browser, not hardware.
Choose the online-proctored delivery. The exam is offered in English and Japanese, the fee is the same, and the console skills it tests are not something a test center adds anything to.
50 percent renewal code
Passing puts a 50 percent discount code in the Benefits section of your CM Connect account, and you can apply it to your renewal attempt. Failing does not earn one.
Free tier and trial credits
Over 20 Google Cloud products have a free monthly usage tier, and new customers get $300 in credits on signup. That covers most of the hands-on work these exams ask about if you delete what you build.
For a good share of candidates somebody else pays this fee. The GI Bill, DoD and employer routes, with the rules each one publishes.
What a retake costs
A retake is another $125 plus tax, with no reduced rate and nothing carried over.
As an associate exam it carries Google's stricter ladder: a maximum of four attempts in a two year period, with 14 days after a first failure, 60 days after a second and 365 days after a third.
Google reports pass or fail only, with no score and no section breakdown. Use the six section weights in the exam guide to decide where the retake effort goes: core services at 23 percent and the two identity and security sections at 20 percent each are 63 percent of the exam.
The section most often underprepared is data governance and compliance, at 15 percent, because Vault, DLP rules, Drive trust rules and classification labels are rarely part of a small tenant's daily work. All four live in Business Plus and take an evening each.

What renewal costs across the full cycle
Associate certifications are valid for three years, and the renewal window opens 180 days before the expiry date.
Passing puts a 50 percent discount code in the Benefits section of your CM Connect account for the renewal attempt.
Renewal means passing the exam again inside the window against the exam guide current at the time. Workspace adds admin settings monthly, so expect the renewal guide to have grown.
There is no maintenance fee and no continuing education to log.
