Concept

Opportunistic encryption protects an open network without a shared secret, but a beacon advertises one security posture at a time. Supporting devices that predate the feature therefore means running a second network rather than adding a fallback to the first.

Transition mode publishes a visible unencrypted network for older devices and a hidden encrypted one, and the visible beacon points capable clients at the hidden network. Two interface configurations are what make that pair of advertisements possible.
