Concept
Rack space is sold and planned in a fixed vertical increment, and every mounting bracket is drilled to that increment. Height and width are separate figures, so a device that fits the width may still need several increments of height.
Why B
One rack unit is 1.75 inches, or 4.45 cm, and brackets drilled to that spacing fit any rack whose holes match. Counting units is how a closet's remaining capacity gets planned.
