Take the free eLearning path before considering a paid class. The advanced searching, reporting and dashboard material on this blueprint is what the free courses on transforming commands, eval functions, time, lookups and classic dashboards teach.
Practice on the free Splunk Enterprise license rather than a paid sandbox. Acceleration options, summary indexing and dashboard drilldowns are configuration you need to have done by hand, and a single free instance is enough.
Buy the five registration pack for $500 if the Advanced Power User is a step on the way to an admin exam. The vouchers stay valid for about a year, which is long enough for both.
Ask your employer about Splunk Education training units before paying. The handbook converts 13 units to one voucher and 50 to five.
Keep the appointment. A missed 48 hour window is a forfeited $130, which is the whole cost of the exam.

Splunk points at a Pearson VUE voucher store selling five exams for $500, which is $100 an exam rather than $130.

What a retake costs
A retake costs $130 with the same wait ladder as every Splunk exam: seven days after the first failure, 14 after the second, then 28 and 56 day waits, and case by case beyond six attempts.
The result appears the moment you submit. If it is a fail, your Pearson VUE account shows section feedback, which on a 22 area blueprint with weights between 2 and 7 percent is the only sensible way to decide what to restudy.
The exam is closed book and the handbook treats any reference material as an automatic failure with the fee forfeited, which matters here because the eval and statistical command syntax is exactly what people are tempted to look up.
Seventy questions in 60 minutes includes the three minute agreement window at the start, so the working pace is under a minute a question and a review pass needs to be planned rather than hoped for.

What renewal costs across the full cycle
Three years from your highest Splunk exam. The handbook's next level options for an Advanced Power User are the Cloud Certified Admin and the Enterprise Certified Admin, and passing either renews this certification along with the Power User and User beneath it.
Otherwise retake the Advanced Power User exam in the final year of the window for $130. A pass earlier than the final year does not count.
Ninety days of grace follow the end date, with no extensions, then the certification goes inactive. Splunk emails reminders at 180, 90 and 30 days in the final year and Credly at 60 days.
Renewing by an admin exam is the better value if you are heading that way anyway, since one $130 attempt renews the Advanced Power User, the Power User and the User at once and adds the admin on top.
Cycle length: 3 years. All Splunk certifications run a three year life cycle from the date of the highest certification exam passed. Splunk stopped renewing certifications through coursework on 1 March 2026, so renewal now means either retaking the same exam in the final year of the window or earning a higher level certification in the same track. Splunk says a certification you let lapse is marked inactive, and that you then restart the program at the Splunk Core Certified Power User level.
