Ways to bring the cost down
Pearson VUE five exam voucher pack
Splunk points at a Pearson VUE voucher store selling five exams for $500, which is $100 an exam rather than $130.
For a good share of candidates somebody else pays this fee. The GI Bill, DoD and employer routes, with the rules each one publishes.
What a retake costs
A retake costs another $130, the same as the first attempt. That single line is larger than every other avoidable cost on this page combined, which is why practising until your mock scores clear the pass line is the cheapest thing you can do.
Splunk makes you wait seven days after a failed attempt before you can sit the exam again, and says the wait is longer for later retakes. Splunk reserves the right to deny a retake beyond the sixth attempt.

What renewal costs across the full cycle
Splunk runs a three year cycle and, since 1 March 2026, renews only by examination: you retake this exam in the final year of the window or pass a higher certification in the same track. Either way renewal costs another $130 attempt.
Cycle length: 3 years. All Splunk certifications run a three year life cycle from the date of the highest certification exam passed. Splunk stopped renewing certifications through coursework on 1 March 2026, so renewal now means either retaking the same exam in the final year of the window or earning a higher level certification in the same track. Splunk says a certification you let lapse is marked inactive, and that you then restart the programme at the Splunk Core Certified Power User level.
