Enterprise Certified AdminHow much does Splunk Enterprise Certified Admin cost?
A $130 attempt on top of the Core Power User you already hold. The admin material has free eLearning for installation and configuration, and the rest is practice on a free license.
Cost breakdown
| Item | Cost | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Exam voucher | $130 | The published US list price for one attempt at Enterprise Certified Admin. |
| Retake | $130 | A second attempt costs the same as the first. |
| Free eLearning on the exam topics | $0 | The free training page lists Splunk Enterprise Installation and Configuration, Upgrading Splunk Enterprise and Exploring Splunk Platform Ecosystems, which cover the admin basics, configuration files and single instance setup on this blueprint. Inputs, forwarders and distributed search need hands on time. |
| Splunk Enterprise trial and free license | $0 | A 60 day trial with no credit card, converting to a perpetual free license for a standalone instance. Indexes, inputs, props and transforms can all be configured on it, and a second trial instance on another machine or container gives you a forwarder and a distributed search to practice with. |
| Cancelling or moving an appointment inside 48 hours | $130 forfeited | The handbook sets a minimum 48 hour cancellation and rescheduling window and forfeits the fee when it is missed. |

Ways to bring the cost down
Build the lab before buying a course. Seventeen blueprint areas at 5 or 10 percent each are almost all configuration, and a free Splunk Enterprise license plus a universal forwarder on a second machine covers inputs, forwarder management, parsing and distributed search without a fee.
Take the free Installation and Configuration and Upgrading courses first. They are the eLearning versions of the admin basics and configuration file material, and the handbook names Splunk Education course material as the best preparation.
The five registration pack at $500 makes sense if the Architect is next, since the Architect lists the Enterprise Admin as a prerequisite and the vouchers last about a year.
If your employer holds Splunk Education training units, 13 convert to one voucher and 50 to five under the handbook's rules.
Keep the appointment. Inside 48 hours the $130 is forfeited.
Pearson VUE five exam voucher pack
Splunk points at a Pearson VUE voucher store selling five exams for $500, which is $100 an exam rather than $130.
For a good share of candidates somebody else pays this fee. The GI Bill, DoD and employer routes, with the rules each one publishes.
What a retake costs
A retake is another $130. The wait is seven days after the first failure, 14 after the second, 28 before a fourth attempt and 56 before the fifth and sixth, with anything beyond six considered case by case.
You see pass or fail on submission. A fail gives section feedback in your Pearson VUE account and nothing more granular, which on a 17 area blueprint is the only useful guide to what to restudy.
The exam is closed book and the handbook names Splunk Docs as prohibited material. That matters for an admin exam, because configuration file precedence and settings are what people most want to check.
Fifty six questions in 60 minutes includes the three minute agreement timer at the start, which still leaves about a minute a question.

What renewal costs across the full cycle
Three years from the date of your highest Splunk exam. The handbook's next level option for an Enterprise Certified Admin is the Enterprise Certified Architect, and passing it renews the Admin and the Advanced Power User, Power User and User beneath it.
The other route is retaking the Enterprise Admin exam in the final year of the window. Both routes cost a $130 attempt, and a pass earlier than the final year does not count.
Ninety days of grace follow the end date, there are no extensions, and Splunk emails reminders at 180, 90 and 30 days with Credly adding one at 60.
The Architect route needs four Splunk Education courses first, with no published price, so for most admins the realistic renewal is the $130 retake unless the employer is funding the Architect path.
Cycle length: 3 years. All Splunk certifications run a three year life cycle from the date of the highest certification exam passed. Splunk stopped renewing certifications through coursework on 1 March 2026, so renewal now means either retaking the same exam in the final year of the window or earning a higher level certification in the same track. Splunk says a certification you let lapse is marked inactive, and that you then restart the program at the Splunk Core Certified Power User level.
