How hard is A+ Core 2?

The short answer
CompTIA A+ Core 2 is an entry-level exam. It assumes no prior certification and is passed regularly by people early in their IT careers, provided they study the published objectives rather than skimming them. CompTIA classifies it at the beginner level, and the format is multiple choice and performance-based, sat in 90 minutes.
If you work with computers day to day, even outside a formal IT role, most of the material will connect to things you have seen. The challenge is vocabulary and breadth, not depth: the exam touches many topics lightly rather than a few deeply.
What actually makes it hard
Interactive items, not just multiple choice.
Multiple choice, multiple response, and performance-based questions. The performance-based items drop you into a simulated console, network diagram, or configuration screen and score what you actually do. These take longer than multiple-choice questions and punish rote memorization, because you have to do the task rather than recognize an answer.
Breadth across domains.
The blueprint spans 4 domains, and the heaviest, Operating Systems, is 28% of the exam. You cannot skip a domain and rely on the rest; the weighting reaches everything.
The clock.
Maximum of 90 questions in 90 minutes leaves little room to dwell. Time pressure is a skill of its own, and it is the one thing reading can never prepare you for. Timed practice can.

What to hold first
CompTIA recommends coming to A+ Core 2 with A+ Core 1 level knowledge. That is a recommendation, not a gate; nothing stops you booking directly. It is honest guidance about the assumed baseline, and skipping it moves the missing material into your study plan rather than out of it.
