How much does Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate cost?

Time the trial. Sixty days is enough for the whole curriculum if the trial starts the same week as the study plan, and it is the single decision that separates a $165 attempt from a $465 one.

Practice all three languages inside the trial. SQL in the warehouse, PySpark in a notebook and KQL in an Eventhouse are all included, and the exam moves between them without warning, so there is no cheaper way to get fluent in the switching than doing it.

Do not pay for the free material. The Learn path covers the study guide, the practice assessment costs nothing, and the study guide itself lists which features are in scope. A course is worth buying for streaming, if at all, and not for the lakehouse basics.

If the trial ends early, pause rather than delete. The smallest capacity paused between sessions costs a fraction of one left running, and your items stay in OneLake for seven days after a trial expires while you reassign the workspace.

A retake is another $165, with no reduced rate and nothing carried over from the first attempt.

Microsoft's ladder applies: 24 hours after a first failure, 14 days before the third and each later attempt, and five attempts in twelve months.

The score report is worth reading slowly on this exam because the three skill areas are the same size, 30 to 35 percent each. A short bar under one of them is a third of the exam and a specific fortnight of work, not a general revision problem.

Monitoring and optimization is the area candidates most often underprepare, because it is the one you meet least while building: capacity metrics, pipeline and notebook error handling, and the optimization of Delta tables and Spark jobs. It is the same weight as the ingestion work everyone practices.

DP-700 is valid for one year and renews free through the online assessment on Microsoft Learn, with the window opening six months before expiry.

The assessment tracks the current study guide, which matters more here than on most exams because Fabric ships features monthly and the skills measured were revised in July 2026.

A lapsed certification cannot be renewed; recovery means $165 and the full proctored exam again.
