Professional Cloud Architect: the honest guide

Everything Google Cloud publishes about PCA, in one place: what the exam asks, how the domains are weighted, and what it takes to be ready.

This guide page is built from the registry, not written yet.

Everything below comes from Cloud Architect’s published exam data, and every figure links to the vendor page it came from. The researched version, with study plans and the parts nobody publishes, is still being written. This page is not submitted to search engines until it is.

Nothing here needs a lab. Reading carefully and eliminating options is the whole skill. Google Cloud, Professional Cloud Architect exam details

Domain breakdown and official weightings

From the official Google Cloud exam guides. Designing and planning a cloud solution architecture is the heaviest domain at 25 percent, followed by Managing and provisioning a cloud solution infrastructure at 17.5 percent.

  • Designing and planning a cloud solution architecture25%
  • Managing and provisioning a cloud solution infrastructure17.5%
  • Designing for security and compliance17.5%
  • Analyzing and optimizing technical and business processes15%
  • Managing implementation12.5%
  • Ensuring solution and operations excellence12.5%

Where to focus: Designing and planning is a quarter of the exam on its own, and adding the two process sections takes requirements work to 40 percent. The case studies are published before the exam and are the cheapest marks available, because everyone else is reading them for the first time under the clock.

What comes after passing

Professional certifications last two years, one year less than the foundational and associate ones. Renewing means passing the $200 exam again inside the 60 day eligibility window, with the 50 percent code from your last pass applied.

Costs across the full renewal cycle are on the Cloud Architect cost page.

Frequently asked questions

Are the case studies really on the exam?

Yes, and they are published in advance. Google puts the case study documents on the exam guide page, and roughly a third of the questions attach to them. Reading them cold in the exam wastes time you do not have, so read them before the day.

Is this harder than the AWS Solutions Architect Professional?

Different rather than harder. Cloud Architect leans on business requirements and process analysis, which together are 40 percent of the exam, where the AWS professional exam leans on service depth. People coming from AWS usually find the technical sections comfortable and underestimate the process ones.

How much of it is Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform?

Two of the twenty-two sub-objectives, both inside the provisioning section, which is 17.5 percent of the exam overall. Google renamed Vertex AI to Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform during 2026, so older study material will call the same material Vertex AI.

How long is it valid?

Two years, one less than the foundational and associate certifications. Renewal means passing the full exam again inside the 60 day eligibility window.
