HashiCorp classifies Terraform Associate at the beginner level. It is multiple choice, multiple response, true/false, and fill in the blank, sat in 60 minutes. No invented pass rates anywhere on this page.
The short answer
HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate is an entry-level exam. It assumes no prior certification.
If you work with computers day to day, even outside a formal IT role, most of the material will connect to things you have seen. The challenge is vocabulary and breadth, not depth: the exam touches many topics lightly rather than a few deeply.
What actually makes it hard
Recognition is not understanding.
The format is multiple choice, multiple response, true/false, and fill in the blank. The wrong options are written to look right to someone who learned the terms without the concept behind them.
Breadth across domains.
The objectives cover 6 areas and the exam samples all of them. HashiCorp publishes no weighting, so nothing tells you which of them carry the most marks.
The clock.
57 questions in 60 minutes is about 1.1 minutes each, including the time to read the stem and the options. Reading about the exam does not rehearse that pace; a full-length sitting against the clock does.
Where the weight sits
Difficulty is not spread evenly, and HashiCorp publishes no weighting that says where it sits. The percentages below are ours:

HashiCorp publishes numbered exam objectives without weightings. The percentages here are ours, grouped from the published objectives to show where the questions cluster. They are a study aid, not an official weighting.
Where candidates struggle: State is where this exam separates people who have used Terraform from people who have read about it. Import, move, refresh, and remote backends are worth more attention than the syntax.
