Cisco classifies CCNA at the intermediate level. It is multiple choice, drag-and-drop, and lab simulations, sat in 120 minutes. No invented pass rates anywhere on this page.
The short answer
Cisco CCNA is a mid-level exam. It assumes working familiarity with the field it covers.
With a year or two of hands-on exposure to the subject area, preparation is mostly review plus practice under the clock, with real gaps to close where an adjacent role never touched the material. Coming in cold, plan for more study time and use the objectives list to find what you have never touched.
What actually makes it hard
The items are not all multiple choice.
Multiple choice and multiple response, drag-and-drop, simlets (a shared topology with several questions hanging off it), and full simulations where you configure real device software in the exam. They take longer than a multiple-choice question, and you have to perform the task rather than recognize an answer.
Breadth across domains.
The blueprint spans 6 domains and the exam samples all of them. The heaviest, IP Connectivity, is 25 percent of the exam; the lightest, Automation and Programmability, 10 percent.
The clock.
Approximately 100 questions in 120 minutes is about 1.2 minutes each, including the time to read the stem and the options. Reading about the exam does not rehearse that pace; a full-length sitting against the clock does.

Difficulty is not spread evenly. Cisco publishes the domain weightings, and they tell you where your study time buys the most points:

What to hold first
Cisco recommends coming to CCNA with Network+ level knowledge. That is a recommendation, not a gate: nothing stops you booking directly. Skipping it does not remove the assumed material; it moves it into your study plan.
