Cloud Digital Leader: the honest guide

Everything Google Cloud publishes about CDL, in one place: what the exam asks, how the domains are weighted, and what it takes to be ready.

This guide page is built from the registry, not written yet.

Everything below comes from Cloud Digital Leader’s published exam data, and every figure links to the vendor page it came from. The researched version, with study plans and the parts nobody publishes, is still being written. This page is not submitted to search engines until it is.

What the exam actually asks you to do

Multiple choice only. No multiple select, no labs, no console access, and nothing to configure during the exam.

  • Multiple choice

Nothing here needs a lab. Reading carefully and eliminating options is the whole skill. Google Cloud, Cloud Digital Leader exam details

Domain breakdown and official weightings

From the official Google Cloud exam guides. Digital Transformation with Google Cloud is the heaviest domain at 18 percent, followed by Exploring Data Transformation with Google Cloud at 18 percent.

  • Digital Transformation with Google Cloud18%
  • Exploring Data Transformation with Google Cloud18%
  • Innovating with Google Cloud Artificial Intelligence18%
  • Modernize Infrastructure and Applications with Google Cloud18%
  • Trust and Security with Google Cloud18%
  • Scaling with Google Cloud Operations10%

Where to focus: Weightings are almost flat, so breadth beats depth here. The one place to spend less time is scaling with Google Cloud operations at about 10%, and the one place a business audience usually loses marks is picking between BigQuery, Spanner, Cloud SQL and Bigtable for a described workload.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Cloud Digital Leader exam cost and how long is it?

$99 plus tax, 90 minutes, 50 to 60 multiple choice questions. There are no prerequisites and no hands-on Google Cloud experience is assumed. Google recommends experience working alongside technical people.

Which version of the exam will you sit?

Google is replacing the exam guide. If you trained before June 8 you use the previous guide, which Google says is available through August 11. If you trained on or after June 8 you use the new guide, and registration for it opens on August 12. The questions on this page follow the new guide.

What score do you need to pass?

Google does not publish one for any of its certification exams. Your result comes back as pass or fail, not as a number, so treat any specific percentage you read elsewhere as invented.

Is Cloud Digital Leader technical?

Not in the hands-on sense. You are asked which Google Cloud product fits a business situation and why, not to configure anything. If you want the console work, Associate Cloud Engineer is the next step.

How is the exam weighted?

Five of the six sections carry about 18% each and scaling with Google Cloud operations carries about 10%. There is no section small enough to skip, so spread your study rather than going deep on one product area.
