EX200How hard is RHCSA?
Red Hat classifies RHCSA at the intermediate level. It is hands-on, performance-based tasks on a live Red Hat Enterprise Linux system, sat in 150 minutes. No invented pass rates anywhere on this page.
The short answer
Red Hat Certified System Administrator is a mid-level exam. It assumes working familiarity with the field it covers.
With a year or two of hands-on exposure to the subject area, preparation is mostly review plus practice under the clock, with real gaps to close where an adjacent role never touched the material. Coming in cold, plan for more study time and use the objectives list to find what you have never touched.
What actually makes it hard
The items are not all multiple choice.
Entirely hands-on. There are no multiple choice questions: you work on a live Red Hat Enterprise Linux system and are scored on the state of the system when time runs out. They take longer than a multiple-choice question, and you have to perform the task rather than recognize an answer.
Breadth across domains.
The objectives cover 10 areas and the exam samples all of them. Red Hat publishes no weighting, so nothing tells you which of them carry the most marks.
The clock.
Red Hat does not publish a question count for EX200, so there is no pace to put a number on. The sitting is 150 minutes.

Red Hat publishes the RHCSA objectives without weightings and grades the exam on completing hands-on tasks rather than by domain. The even split shown here is ours, to convey the scope of the objectives, not an official Red Hat weighting.
Where candidates struggle: RHCSA is passed at the keyboard. The most effective preparation is a Red Hat Enterprise Linux virtual machine you rebuild until every objective, from LVM to SELinux to systemd units, is muscle memory rather than something you look up.
